With one of the world’s best-known luxury golf resorts on its doorstep, the Perthshire town of Auchterarder is a sought-after place to live.

Dad-of-two Daniel Harden recently moved from Perth, where he had been renting, after choosing a new home in Auchterarder, the three-bedroom Cheviot house type at The Castleton development.

It was a spontaneous decision for Daniel, 44, who had been browsing the web on a tea break at work when he stumbled across the development and liked the look of it so much he visited that same weekend.

He said: “It was all a bit spur of the moment. There was something exciting about The Castleton. I fell for the fact it was so spacious and had a lovely homely feeling. It really is a unique little place.

“One of the things that struck me is there is much more space between the homes than other new build developments, and views to the hills are also fantastic.

“The plot had so much space around it, I snapped it up right away.”

The detached villa features integral garage, en suite shower room off the master bedroom, family bathroom and open-plan kitchen/dining area with French doors out to the garden.

Daniel added: “The house really has character and there are so many nice little touches, thoughtful things that made it feel like home right away.

“It’s the first time I have lived in a brand new home and there is something very special about being the first person to live somewhere. I love how everything is pristine and my choice.

“Auchterarder is so friendly. It has plenty of quirky little shops and cafés, but it feels like a village. People stop and talk to one another.

“I like the fact it is easy to get to Glasgow or Edinburgh, but still feels peaceful and it’s great to get a bit of a change of pace.”

Auchterarder boasts some of the most expensive homes in Scotland, with its proximity to Gleneagles and stunning surrounding countryside a major draw to buyers.

One of the town’s greatest assets is the bustling high street, over a mile long and blending family-owned stores with high street retailers.

A good supply of local amenities, including a primary school and community health centre, are also big pluses for prospective residents.

For commuters, the proximity to Stirling, Perth and Glasgow (less than an hour’s drive away) is appealing.

Prices for the two to five-bedroom homes available at The Castleton start from £209,750, find out more here
